St George’s Day 2026

This year, we are very fortunate to have secured the use of Bishops Waltham Palace for our St George’s Day parade and celebration. This has meant moving from our traditional Fareham Precinct location, something we hope to alternate on an annual basis moving forward. This is the one occasion in 2026 that all the Groups in Denewulf District will join together, so please make every effort for a 100% turnout.
General Information:

- Groups will form up in Brook Street, Bishops Waltham from 13.15hrs. Parents can drop off in Market Square until about 13.35hrs, but there is no parking in this area. After 13.35hrs the square will be closed.
- The Parade will start at 13.45hrs and follow the route from the square along Houchin Street to the roundabout, and along the B2177 to the entrance to the Palace.
- The Salute will be taken at the Palace by the Mayor of Fareham and Deputy Mayor of Winchester.
- Once inside the Palace Groups will form up around the speaking area as directed.
- Full smart uniform please – avoid jeans and trainers – all decorations to be worn.
- There is plenty of parking, both on and off street withing a short walking distance of the village centre, including Lower Lane, Jubilee Hall, Basingwell Street and Hoe Road Recreational Ground.
Information for Leaders:
- Order of the Parade will follow previous convention, and details will be sent to GLVs nearer the time.
- All Groups to bring Group / Section flags for parade – clean the brass finials – be proud!
- All GLVs to ensure that a head count is taken, before, during and after! – probably by Section Leaders within the group
- Parade will be led by Parade Marshall; followed by the Union Flag, and then the St George’s, Scout Association and District flags in line abreast.
- This will be followed by all Groups in the order– each Group in the order of – Squirrels, Beaver Scouts, Cub Scouts, Scouts, Explorers, as applicable.
- Each Group and Section will be responsible for the children in their care, with extra care being required where the parade ventures onto the highway. Traffic guards will be positioned as appropriate and will stop all traffic until the parade is safely passed
- Whilst marching, flags will be carried “At the fly”, dependent on the on wind speed on the day. Four Explorer Scouts will be required for flag duty on the day – Groups to supply.
- Each Group will need to supply Qty 2 Hi-vis jacketed personnel to police their respective Groups on the roads.
