Squirrels Birthday Funday

Date: 14th Sep 2026 Author: Jason Nash

This year, our youngest section, Squirrels, turns five, and Dreys from across the District were out at Lyons Copse, celebrating! There were awesome adventures all across the site, including low ropes, woodwork, caving and leaf bashing. The young people particularly enjoyed their treasure hunt and climbing.

With the main activities over, the Squirrels took part in a campfire-style sing-a-long and had a brilliant time with the “Oogie Boogie Dance” and “Cecil the Caterpillar”. One big highlight was the presence of Skip the Squirrel, who certainly made the occasion tree-mendous.

Despite the Squirrel section being introduced only recently, it is fabulous to see so many young people enjoying a rich and diverse programme across six Dreys in Denewulf. Volunteers really enjoyed working together for this event, and this supportive environment fostered across groups helps every Squirrel Drey to thrive.

Many thanks to all the volunteers who put this together, particularly Squirrels Programme Lead Carolyn and former lead Sian, who have both worked incredibly hard. Special congratulations to Carolyn too for her Award for Merit, received for all her hard work at 1st Shedfield, across a number of sections, and in the wider Denewulf district.

All the photos from the event can be found in the gallery.
